The latest portable gaming and multimedia device from Nintendo has been on sale in Japan for several months, but the American version is just around the corner. Look for the American version of the Nintendo DSi to hit retailers on April 5th. The MSRP has been set at US$169.99, so the Canadian price will probably get pretty close to C$200. Software piracy is a big issue around the world. Compared to software industry, the world of game industry is probably a bit safer. But here and there pirates are bringing out innovative ideas to crack the games. The methods available to play pirated games are too risky and it may result in legal issues. However, consoles are now come under the sight of pirates.

Recently a gadget from a Chinese manufacturer has been introduced to the market. It’s named R4 and available in many online stores including Amazon.com.

“There has always been an undercurrent of piracy in the console market, but it’s more of a hardcore pursuit,” says Tim Ingham, the online editor of gaming magazine, MCV. “You usually need to ‘mod’ a console to really take advantage – which invalidates the warranty and can easily go wrong. It usually involves some kind of hardware modification, soldering and more.”

Unsurprisingly, the game industry looses £3 billion per year, while Nintendo says it lost £560m last year.

If you’re a gamer who loves Nintendogs, then you’ll probably love this game “Planet Rescue”. ‘Planet Rescue’ is a game for Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii. This game will teach kids about environmental issues and endangered animals.

The four games are designed for 6-12 year old children and the titles are fairly self-explanatory. On the DS, we’ll see Ocean Patrol, Animal Emergency and Endangered Island. Wii owners get Wildlife Vet.

A new range of games for the DS and Wii, the Planet Rescue games promote animal safety and protection values to kids.

“Safeguarding our planet and protecting our animal kingdom for future generations is a major concern in today’s society,” said John Parkes, EMEA Marketing Director at Ubisoft.

The DS Planet Rescue games are out 14 November for £30 each in the UK, with Wildlife Vet following on the Wii for £40 from 28 November.

Last year this time there were more frustrated shoppers who waited in line for hours to get their hands on a Nintendo Wii. Many disappointed as they found out shops ran out of stock.

This year Nintendo America hopes that there will be no shortage during the holiday season. Nintendo is increasing shipments for both Wii, and Nintendo DS by 50 percent between October to December.

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime says “If we were to get in a car right now and go to 100 retail locations in the San Francisco area, we would not be able to find a Wii in at least 60 of those stores. Our hope is that by next week, the Friday after Thanksgiving, and on Dec. 23, you’ll be able to find a Wii.”

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the software for Nintendo DSi will be region specific software. Even games will be region specific that means Ausie users can’t play European games and vice versa.

Current Nintendo DS and Game Cube are free of such locks and it has become a surprise issue to gamers around the world. In Nintendo’s argument “DSi is more than just a gaming console. Nintendo aims to provide online services which are specific for separate regions”.

Nintendo has planned to ship its top-selling Wii and DS video-game consoles to US in the fourth quarter. It’ll help them to cater the holiday market demand.

According to Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo’s U.S. operations, More Wii consoles will be available in stores from October. Also he noted that Wii percent and DS handheld shipments are projected to rise about 10 percent.

“We are in unforeseen territory,” Fils-Aime said. “Will this finally be enough to meet demand? My answer is talk to me in January.”

Unlike last year Nintendo is trying to avoid shortages that limited sales in the U.S. In mid December, the company ran out of DS players. As the sales exceeded the forecast, company had difficult time keeping up with demand.

Because demand remains high for the current DS model, Nintendo won’t offer U.S. consumers a new version that includes a camera and music player until “well into 2009,” Fils-Aime said.

The new version of DSi will be available in Japanese market on November 1, the company has officially announced the launch in Tokyo.

In July it had sold 77.5 million DS players since the first model was introduced in December 2004. In August, the company raised its full-year profit forecast by 26 percent, which is higher-than-anticipated sale of DS and Wii..

Sony also plans to introduce an upgraded version of PSP in mid October, which will consist of a built-in microphone and a screen that displays sharper images.

Nintendo has officially confirmed that new version of DS hand held, known as DSi will be launched. Thursday morning officials released the news to the world in Tokyo, Japan. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata proudly announced the news about the release of the DSi.

“We want everyone to have their own individual machine,” Nintendo president and chief executive Satoru Iwata told a press conference. “For those households who already have a DS that they share among family members, I want them to have one for each member.”

The Nintendo DSi will possess a slimmer body, bigger screens, two cameras, and new image and music players. This is the third version of the Nintendo DS since it launched back in late 2004, and has dominated the handheld market ever since. DS console is the most successful in Japanese market having sold 23 million units.

First this product will be launched in Japan on November 1 for ¥18,900 ($179, £101). International releases will follow in 2009. Nintendo Europe would confirm that this DSi will be launched in next spring.
