Forbes reported that: A day after PlayStation 3 maker Sony reported a 50.0% plunge in profits, sales of the Wii gaming platform spurred Nintendo to a 34.0% rise in net profits. Despite being out for more than 18 months, the Wii console has continued to sell at such a high rate that, particularly in the United States, the Kyoto-based company has been struggling to produce enough to keep up with the demand. The company is forecasting sales of the console to reach 25 million for the year ending March 2009.

Shortly after Sony announced the firnware update v2.4 for PS3, Sony on Wednesday confirmed that it has pulled the latest firmware update for PlayStation 3, because of reports from customers that it has caused their systems to stop working. Sony released firmware 2.40 Tuesday, and reports of problems started flowing in soon after on the official PS3 message board.

American retail giant Wal-Mart is to start selling Blu-ray players for under $300, making it even more cheper than the PS3 (which currently sells for$399 in the states). The hardware on offer will be a Funai player rebadged for Wal-Mart under the "Magnavox" brand.
