Virtual Physical Exercise Lessons With Wii

Schools in UK will soon be using the Nintendo Wii as part of the curriculum for PE lessons after plans were approved by the Department of Health. A report by the Independent on Sunday revealed that the Wii has been successfully used in trials in five schools in Worcestershire, with plans now ready to take it nationwide.

The news comes after a report in the British Medical Journal, which found active Wii video games “significantly increased participants’ energy expenditure” compared to other consoles. A Department of Health spokesman said: “We welcome the positive impact that innovations like these can have as a first step towards getting people to participate in a range of physical activities and to enjoy the many benefits of an active lifestyle.”
