According to sales figured there are now 2.7 million Blu-ray players in North American homes, the astonishing thing about this though is that 74% of those Blu-ray players are actually the Sony PlayStation 3 console. According to Video Business, the number of standalone Blu-ray disc players are around 700,000 in North America, with the PS3 at 2 million.

The reports coming out are stating that Black Friday sales helped give the Blu-ray market a huge boost as the number of players in homes in North America shot up greatly during the biggest shopping day of the year in North America. According to the report the 2.7 million Blu-ray players represents 700,000 standalone players as well as 2 million PS3 consoles which use the Blu-ray playback.
