It’s official. Say bye bye to the 20GB version of the PS3. If you have one, keep it. If you don’t have one, see if you can get one and sell it as an antique say 50 years later. Sony will stop producing the 20GB as it was obvious that the demand for the 60GB version of PS3 has outpaced the 20GB version for 10 to 1.

The decision doesn’t seem so much like a surprise for me. Long before when the PS3 announced that they were going to make 2 versions of the same machine, people were already questioning the rationale behind it. Maybe Sony has learnt their lesson, after all Xbox 360 and Nintendo sticked with one machine right from the start, and that they were both doing pretty good in the marketplace.

As the 20GB is now history, I would probably say it was due to manufacturing and marketing cost as well as hardware support for Sony to pull it out from their product line. It makes me wonder was the 20GB an itch that Sony created, as they know people will scratch themselves when they see the more powerful (yes, more expensive of course) 60GB version?
