Did you know that Wii sold 105,000 units over its opening weekend (8th Dec 2006) in the UK, and has become the fastest selling home console in chart history? It is the first time any console has broken the 100,000 mark over an opening weekend, and with handheld DS shifting around 110,000 in the same week, it tops off a bumper week for platform holder Nintendo.

The next console to come as close to Wii’s remarkable opening sales records? You guess it. The previous record holder was Microsoft’s Xbox 360 which saw 70,000 units sold in its launch weekend. (Playstation 3 hasn’t been released in UK by the way)

Call it a flying start for Nintendo? Oh yeah, you bet! If you had bough Nintendo’s share in Jan 06 at $15, guess you could have doubled it up as it’s now $32! Maybe we should play less games and buy more shares
