Playstation 3 Cell Processor on Mobile Phones

Toshiba is planning to implement IBM’s newest Cell processor (which powers the newest and most powerful video game console - Playstation 3) on mobile phones.

A roadmap for the processor on display by Toshiba at Ceatec show in Japan shows a more powerful version of the chip under development for 2007. Sources have said that the device will be manufactured more advanced 65nm (nanometer) production technology. What this probably means is that consumers will enjoy lower power consumption and increased performance from their current counterparts which are generally built using 90nm (nanometer) production technology.

The Cell chip is the product of a joint development project by Toshiba, IBM, and Sony. Each chip contains a main processor and eight sub-processors to deliver about 200 gigaflops (floating point operations per second) of power. When the Cell partners disclosed details of the chip in 2004 both Toshiba and Sony said they planned to put the device into consumer electronics products by 2006. While Sony is now concentrating on Playstation 3, Toshiba is focusing on developing (enhancing) Cell to be used on mobile phones.

I would just like to say, I will never purchase another Microsoft product ever again in my life after the smack in the face me and half of America recieved when we heard the news of a new refurbed XBox 360 with 120 HD and HDMI.. Woopty Doo. No thanks! These are things that should have been on there in the first place! Guess what Sony Haters…the Playstation 3 not looking so expensive after all, is it! All of them are a bunch of CROOKS, just like the XBox Live scam…Reminds me of a Carnival where you buy tickets ride the rides and when your ready to go, what do you do with the left over tickets? EXACTLY! They can keep counting other peoples CASH, not mine. Go SONY-Nintendo!

Ballatician, at least you got the chance to enjoy the Xbox 360 first hand before anyone did… Technology always changes and products are upgraded to attract future customers, it’s not that I have anything to complain about that thouugh :)

It’s just like pc and laptops, you know you just have to get one when you feel like it although you know that there will probably be one more powerful, more features, more everything coming up next week.
