How will a racing or rally game look like without any cars and tracks? Sony has release plans and stated the concept will be implemented into Gran Turismo HD. Sony’s plan has its catch, which involves seriously milking future PlayStation 3 owners.

Gran Turismo HD will ship in two different versions. The first one, dubbed Gran Turismo HD: Premium, will be the single player version and will include 30 cars and 2 tracks. The second, Gran Turismo HD: Classic, won’t include even a single car or track. Instead, gamers will need to purchase their cars and tracks online.

Gran Turismo HD: Classic owners will be able to choose between 750 cars, priced $0.50-$1.00 each, and 50 tracks ($1.50-$4.50 each). At present time, such release plans are only for the Japanese market.

Which version would you choose? The classic version, should one get addicted and tempted to buy new cars and tracks could beef up the cost of the game end up costing around $500 and $1000. I would just stick to the premium version and pay $60 for a game instead.
