Activision has confirmed that their PS3 launch titles will cost a hefty $60. After all, when Xbox 360 came out last year, most of the titles for the first next-generation console was also selling for $60.
Activision CEO Robert Kotick confirmed the PlayStation 3 pricing in a presentation to the Merrill Lynch Media and Entertainment Conference. In explaining the company’s reasoning for the pricey games, Kotick said: “We have not seen a lot of consumer resistance at the higher price points, and we expect that all of our next-generation products will be launched at $60 price points.”
Will this mean Wii games will also cost the $60? According to Gamespot, confirmation has been recieved from an Activision rep that says “Nope, Kotick was referring only to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 games.” So, only time will tell for now how much a Wii game from Activiosin will sell for in the future.
But Activision is confident that the titles will be well worth it. “That is the most expensive product that we’ve created, and for good reason,” Kotick said. “You’ll see how much it really takes advantage of the assets and the capabilities of the hardware.”
