Microsoft’s 5000th Patent: Allowing Users To Spectate Other Players Through Live

Microsoft has been granted the patent that gives Xbox 360 users access to watch other gamers compete against each other over Xbox Live. The 5000th patent logged by Microsoft will allow people to spectate a live Xbox 360 game just like they would a sporting event broadcast on TV.

Patent 6,999,083 empowers Xbox Live users to view the game in real-time and watch highlights and instant replays, all from a number of unique angles. A spectator can gain control of the camera and place it in a number of different positions or place it on an automated function.

Users will also be able to access schedules, information on games and events and find out which are the most popular.

Over recent years Microsoft has spent billions of dollars on research and development in an effort to continue technological improvements. Brad Smith, Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Microsoft, said the number of patents logged by Microsoft is a measure of the companies dedication:

“The 5,000th patent is a marker of the progress we have made in the past few years — building a high-quality, innovative and industry-recognized portfolio.?
