PSP2 To Abandon UMD

According to a Japanese Samsung website as covered by GamersReports.com, Sony Computer Entertainment is not only asking them to ramp up flash memory chips for Sony’s use with the current PSP, but also stated that the PSP2 (PlayStation Portable 2) will not use UMDs, but “flash memory hard disk drives”. Right now it’s all rumor and Sony has been mute on the topic, but it will be interesting to see if the PSP2 will support UMD (backwards compatibility?) or if the while cased discs will head the way of the minidisk.

Hmmm; my first reaction was “No way they can’t do that; that would be stupid.

To be honest though; it really wouldn’t surprise me if this happened; so long as they make it backwards compatible I suppose I am fuine with it.

    Ahhh; I dunno!
