Analyst predicts misery for European PlayStation fans, with an estimated March 2007 launch of the PlayStation 3.

The launch of the PlayStation 3 is perhaps the most widely discussed topic in the video game industry and a release date is like gold dust, with everyone clambering for the elusive date. There’s still no official word, but analysts have been at it again, predicting the future of our favourite industry.

Evan Wilson of Pacific Crest Securities has made news today after being quoted in Interactive Investor. Wilson predicts that the PlayStation 3 will hit North America in November with approximately 1 million hardware units available to consumers. A spring launch in Japan also seems unlikely, with Wilson predicting that the console will make its retail debut in the summer, with Japan also receiving 1 million units.

This isn’t all that surprising, with many people predicting spring to be a little early for the console’s debut, and a November release in North America is what’s expected by almost every industry professional, but news on the European release is most worrying. According to Wilson, we might be waiting until March 2007.

Of course, Sony isn’t saying anything on these new predictions, and it’s worth remembering that they are just that - predictions.
