Resident Evil developer Capcom has revealed its intentions to release the newest game of the franchise, Resident Evil 5, simultaneously on both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 platforms.
Gamespot reports that in an interview with Xbox 360ism, a one-off publication from Japan’s Dorimaga magazine, Keiji Inafune, the division chief for Research and Development at Capcom, stated his desire for Resident Evil 5 to debut on both platforms at the same time.
“We want to grow the Resident Evil series into a multi-platform franchise, so we hope to release it simultaneously [on the two next-generation consoles]. But since we don’t know the launch period for the PS3 yet, so it’s hard to say [if we can],” he said.
The major sticking point seems to be how long Capcom are willing to wait to release the game if Sony delays the launch of the Playstation 3, currently set for spring 2006.
Inafune also announced that Resident Evil 5 would feature some online capabilities but did not elaborate.
In other Capcom news, the zombie action game Dead Rising, their first title for the Xbox 360, has been pushed back from its expected early 2006 launch date until at least the summer.
